DECA Student, Tyler Ellingson, Qualifies for National Competition in California

Kathy Ellingson emailed to say her son, Tyler, had recently received two honors. He was selected to go to Annaheim, CA, for National DECA competition. She added that only the top two place winners at the state level compete at Nationals. Tyler, also the son of Jeff Ellingson and grandson of Clifford and Eleanor Ellingson, will get to go to Disney and a Dodgers game on the DECA trip, as well.
Secondly, Tyler is wrestling tomorrow night in Border Battles. Iowa and MInnesota send the two top senior wrestlers from bordering schools to team up state against state. Tyler and Andrew Casper were selected from Decorah. RESULTS JUST IN: Tyler not only received a pin for his team (one of three Iowa boys who received pins), but Iowa beat Minnesota for the 5th year out of 8 years of competition. Congratulations, Tyler!

Thirteen Decorah DECA students qualified for the International Career Development Conference recently at the State DECA Career Development Competition in Des Moines.
Students who qualified for the national competition in Anaheim, Calif., April 29 through May 2, include: Andy Wilbur, Tyler Ellingson (pictured above at a wrestling tournament), Evan Symons, Paige Rustad, Jena Rockweiler, Tyler Rinken, Kristen Malanaphy, Megan Tappe, Tori Dahlen, Emily Harman, Zach Schmelzer, Hayley Mason and Ellen Shroyer.
Students had to take a 100-point test and role-plays with judges in each category. Results:
Students placing well included: accounting applications series, Andy Wilbur, first overall, first in test and third in second roll play; financial analysis management team event: first place overall -- Evan Symons and Paige Rustad, honorable mention overall (fifth place) -- Sam Lewey and Lauren Hable; sports and entertainment marketing series: Tyler Ellingson, second overall, first and second in role plays; business law and management team event: David Pellet and Bjorn Gowdy-Jaehnig, honorable mention overall (fifth place).
Buying and merchandizing management team event: Erica Bjelland and Liz Shroyer, honorable mention overall (sixth place); hospitality services management team event: Hayley Mason and Ellen Shroyer, third place overall; travel and tourism marketing management team event: Emily Harman and Kristen Malanaphy, honorable mention overall; advertising campaign event: Jena Rockweiller and Tyler Rinken - second place overall, Trisha Stortz and Paige Rustad - third place overall.
Fashion merchandising promotion event: Kristen Malanaphy/Megan Tappe/Tori Dahlen, first place overall; entrepreneurship participating event-independent, Emily Harman, second place overall; entrepreneurship participating event-franchise: Zach Schmelzer, second place overall; entrepreneurship written event, Ellen Shroyer/Hayley Mason/Evan Symons, first place overall.
State test winners include: economics: Zach Henning, Jae Na and Tyler Ellingson, honorable mentions; general marketing, Tyler Smith, honorable mention; marketing math: Tyler Ellingson, honorable mention.
